Using spectroscopy to find art forgery

It doesnt matter whether its Van Gogh, Picasso or Renoir: forgeries of famous artists are being discovered more and more frequently. Mostly, this happens with the help of innovative technical solutions.
One possibility for detection is fibre optic reflection spectroscopy (FORS) for pigment identification. This absolutely non-destructive analysis can provide precise information about the materials used. The setup and the measuring equipment used are relatively simple. A light source, a corresponding spectrometer and a reflection probe are required. The Exemplar Plus LS from our partner B&W Tek provides the advantage of the low wavelength range up to 180 nm.
