We see fiber optics as a fundamental and enabling technology for our customers' ideas and problem solutions in applications such as communications engineering, sensor technology, metrology and medical technology.

In communications engineering, ever higher data rates, more complex modulation methods and the use of wavelength division multiplexing mean that ever greater volumes of data can be transmitted via optical fibers.



We support you in the selection of suitable transmit/receive optics, passive and active components and system solutions such as media converters, optical transmission solutions for data center interconnect applications, fiber monitoring systems and the associated measurement technology. In addition, we can advise you on tools and accessories for setting up fiber optic networks, including splicing equipment, field and laboratory measurement equipment, network testers and cable certifiers.



Many components and solutions originally developed for optical communication technology are increasingly used in non-telecom applications. For example, optical fibers can be used as sensors to evaluate the linear and non-linear properties of the optical fiber during the transmission of light in order to infer the mechanical strain or temperature change along the optical fiber. Dedicated sensors such as fiber Bragg gratings allow temperature changes and mechanical stresses such as strain and vibration to be measured locally in challenging environmental conditions. For example, in areas with high EMI or extreme temperatures, conventional electrical sensors such as strain gauges or temperature sensors cannot be used. Fiber-based measurement solutions are an alternative here.



Fiber-based interferometry enables the construction of very compact measurement solutions to measure distances with very high resolution in the free beam or in the fiber. Using optical coherence tomography, the internal structure of these materials can be recorded due to the different reflection and absorption behavior for laser light of certain wavelengths at boundary layers in the material and displayed with imaging methods. In biological tissues, differences in the tissue can thus be detected and layer thicknesses determined. This is used, for example, in ophthalmology to measure the cornea before laser surgery to correct visual acuity and to determine how much material needs to be
