Passive Components

Passive network components are network components that usually do not require any electrical power input. Key passive components include couplers/splitters, wavelength-selective splitters (WDM, CWDM, and DWDM), circulators/isolators, and optical switches. They are available for both single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) applications. These parts are crucial for building a powerful and error-free network. Using unsuitable passive components at key locations in a network could have a quick and noticeable detrimental effect on system performance.

A suite of advanced polarization test instruments specially designed for testing the quality of fiber coils ensures the consistent production of high performance coils. GPCs' PM coils can be wound with different winding patterns such as quadrupole, octupole, or other types to minimize the Shupe effect, which degrades the performance of a fiber gyro under temperature-varying conditions.

Winding a large fiber spool is easy, but making compact, low loss fiber coils requires attention, precision, and skill.

These connectorized couplers are free of fiber pigtails and ready to be inserted in optical systems without the headaches of tinkering with fragile and messy fiber pigtails.

GPC-PMC

The polarization maintaining filter coupler can either split the light from an input PM fiber between 2 output PM fibers, or can combine light signals from 2 PM input fibers into a single PM output fiber.

This device can be used either as a polarization beam combiner to combine light beams from two PM input fibers into a single output fiber, or as a polarization beamsplitter to split light from an input fiber into two output fibers of orthogonal polarization states.

GPC-FRM / NFRM

The Faraday rotator mirror is a fiber optic polarization rotation mirror designed for fiber optic networks and measurement applications. The state of polarization (SOP) of the reflected light is rotated 90 degrees from that of the input light.

GPC-ISO / NISO

These isolators are the smallest in size but the highest in quality in the market. They are ruggedly built to function reliably in a wide variety of environments.

General Photonics’ fiber optic circulators are compact, high-performance light-wave components that separate signals traveling in opposite directions along fibers by transmitting signals from port 1 to port 2 and port 2 to port 3, while blocking signals traveling in the opposite directions.

The LT900 Series of 1xN (1x3-1x26) optical switches combine world class switching speed with low insertion loss and excellent repeatability.

GPCs' motorized variable optical delay line provides precision optical path length adjustment of up to 560 ps, single-pass. Driven by a DC motor with an integrated encoder, the MDL-002 has a resolution of less than 0.3μm (1 fs).

General Photonics’ motorized variable optical delay line provides low cost, precision optical path length adjustment and delay scanning functionality. This addition to the MDL product line is specifically designed for OEM applications that require continuous scanning capability and a small footprint.
